How to Play Equation Guess
Deduce a hidden mathematical equation in at most six valid guesses. Easy uses five characters, Normal seven and Hard eight, including the equals sign. Enter a calculation on the left and a nonnegative whole-number answer on the right. Every guess must be a true equation and must use exactly the shown length.
Use digits and +, −, × or ÷. Type multiplication as * and division as /, or use the equation keypad. Multiplication and division are evaluated before addition and subtraction. Fractions within a calculation are checked exactly, but the final answer on the right must be a whole number. Parentheses, unary minus and leading zeros are not used in this game.
A false equation, a repeated guess or the wrong character length does not use another guess. Feedback is positional: ✓ means the character is exact; ↔ means it appears elsewhere; – means it is absent or its available occurrences are already accounted for. Text symbols and accessible labels accompany the colors.
Worked Example and Repeated Characters
If the hidden equation is 8+1=9 and you guess 1+8=9, both equations are mathematically true. The +, = and 9 are exact. The 1 and 8 appear elsewhere, so you can exchange their positions in a later guess. An equivalent calculation is not a complete answer unless it matches the hidden character sequence.
Repeated characters have a limited count. If the hidden equation is 4+4=8 and your valid guess is 8/1=8, the final 8 is exact. The first 8 is marked absent because the target contains only one 8 and that occurrence is already used by the exact match. Exact positions are counted before elsewhere matches.
Use each valid guess to test both an arithmetic structure and character locations. For example, 2+3*4=14 is true under operation order, while evaluating strictly from left to right would give a different result. This example illustrates the rule; only equations of the selected game’s length can be submitted.
Daily Equation Puzzles, Keypad and Records
Daily uses the same hidden equation for a level and UTC date. Practice creates another puzzle through New puzzle. Your valid guesses and unfinished input save separately for each mode and level. Daily changes at midnight UTC. Restarting a completed daily puzzle does not create another distinct solved record.
Type in the equation field and press Enter to guess. Alternatively, tap digits and operators on the keypad, use ⌫ to remove the last character, and Clear to erase unfinished input. Earlier submitted guesses remain on the board. Hint reveals one target position and marks the round assisted.
An exact match completes the puzzle and updates the shared math-practice calendar. Solving in fewer valid guesses earns a higher score; assisted rounds do not replace an unaided best. After six unsuccessful valid guesses, the equation is revealed and the round ends without a solved completion. These are original arithmetic tasks generated for this site, with local personal records and no account required.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does an incorrect equation use a guess?
No. The game rejects a mathematically false equation, the wrong length or a repeated guess without consuming another valid guess.
How are repeated characters marked?
Exact matches are assigned first. Elsewhere marks then use only the unmatched occurrences left in the target; any excess repetition is absent.
