Equation Builder is a free number puzzle in which you arrange every displayed tile to make the target value. Choose Easy, Medium or Hard and a five-puzzle or ten-puzzle round, then press Start round. Select tiles from the bank in the order you want them to appear. The equals sign and target are already provided; you build only the expression on the left.
A selected tile moves into the equation and becomes unavailable in the bank. Select a placed tile to return it, use Undo for the last move, or use Clear to start the arrangement again. Check equation evaluates your complete expression. If it misses the target, rearrange the tiles and try again. All tiles, including operators and brackets, must be used exactly once.
You can play by touch or mouse. Keyboard users can move through tile buttons with Tab and select them with Enter or Space. When the equation board itself has focus, Backspace undoes a move, Escape clears it and Enter checks the equation. You do not need to drag tiles or type a mathematical expression.
Understanding the Order of Operations
The game uses normal arithmetic rules. Work out brackets first. Then perform multiplication and division from left to right. Finally, perform addition and subtraction from left to right. The expression is evaluated using these rules even if you selected the tiles in a different order.
Example: multiplication before addition
With the tiles 3, 4, 2, + and ×, an expression of 3 + 4 × 2 equals 11 because 4 × 2 is 8. It does not equal 14. To make 14 from those same five tiles, arrange 3 × 4 + 2 instead.
Example: brackets change the result
The expression (3 + 4) × 2 equals 14 because the bracketed addition happens first. Without brackets, 3 + 4 × 2 equals 11. On Hard, the bank includes a matching pair of bracket tiles, and you must decide where to use them.
Example: more than one correct answer
For a target of 12, both 4 × 2 + 4 and 4 + 4 × 2 are valid when the bank contains those exact tiles. The game accepts any valid arrangement that uses the entire bank and reaches the target. Two tiles displaying the same number still represent two separate tiles.
Three Puzzle Levels
- Easy: arrange two numbers and one addition or subtraction tile.
- Medium: use three numbers and two operators, including multiplication.
- Hard: include a bracket pair, with division available among the generated operations.
Every puzzle is generated from a valid expression, so at least one solution exists. The target is a positive whole number, though a valid arrangement may contain fractional intermediate results. Division by zero is never accepted. The game checks tile identity as well as arithmetic, so reusing one tile cannot replace a missing tile.
Finish two rounds at 80% accuracy or better to get a Medium suggestion. After four successful rounds, Hard is suggested. Levels remain freely selectable so you can return to a comfortable starting point.
Learn from Each Attempt
Use Hint when you need help choosing a method. It reduces the available points without ending the puzzle. Show solution displays a valid arrangement and ends that puzzle with zero points. Afterward, review the explanation, continue, or request another puzzle at the same level.
A clean solution earns 100 points before scaling; a hint caps this at 60. Wrong numerical checks deduct 20 points each, down to 20 for a solved puzzle. Incomplete arrangements and syntax messages do not count as numerical checks. The final score is scaled to 1,000 for either round length. Accuracy is solved puzzles divided by checked answers, including revealed solutions.
Your result contains completion time, score, accuracy, best streak and a review of every puzzle. Personal bests and practice activity stay in this browser. The game clock pauses while the tab is hidden and does not impose a time limit.

Yes. Every mathematically valid arrangement is accepted if it uses each displayed tile exactly once and equals the target.
