Controls & saved progress

Focus the plane: arrows move one unit, and Enter or Space plots. The x/y fields and Plot point button provide another complete input method.

Saved progress stays in this browser when available.

Best scores are separate for each level. Hints and Undo mark assistance; assisted rounds do not replace an unaided best.

How to Play Coordinate Quest

Complete five checkpoints on a coordinate plane. In an ordered pair (x, y), x gives the horizontal position and y gives the vertical position. Tap a grid location to select the nearest whole-number point, enter the two coordinates in the fields, or move the board cursor with arrow keys. Choose Plot point to check it.

Easy uses nonnegative coordinates from 0 to 6. Normal uses signed coordinates from −5 to 5. Hard uses the same signed grid but describes movement from the previous correct checkpoint. Move right to increase x, left to decrease x, up to increase y and down to decrease y.

The plotted checkpoints remain numbered on the board. A correct point advances to the next task. An incorrect point stays available for correction and shows how to locate the intended destination. The task has no countdown and uses only whole-number coordinates, so clicking between grid intersections rounds the cursor to the nearest permitted point.

Worked Examples: Ordered Pairs and Moves

To plot (4, 2), begin at the origin, move four units across to the right, then two units up. The order matters: (2, 4) is a different point. For (−3, 4), move three units left and four units up. A negative y coordinate is below the horizontal axis.

For a movement task starting at (−2, 3), move four right and five down. Compute x = −2 + 4 = 2 and y = 3 − 5 = −2. The destination is (2, −2). Hard’s clues state the starting point and both directions so the calculation is explicit.

Check the coordinate fields before plotting. They provide an exact alternative when a dense grid is difficult to tap. The crosshair shows the currently selected location, and the task text remains available above the diagram. Feedback uses numbers and words, rather than color alone.

Keyboard Navigation and Saved Missions

Tab to the coordinate board. Arrow keys move its cursor by one grid unit, and Enter or Space plots the selected point. The page does not scroll when those keys control the focused board. Typing in the main site search or the coordinate fields keeps its normal behavior.

Daily chooses a repeatable set of five points for the UTC date and selected level. Practice makes another set through New puzzle. Your checkpoint index and selected cursor location save separately by mode and level. Hints show the destination and mark the round assisted. There is no Undo because each verified checkpoint is final for that mission.

Complete all five checkpoints to add a solved mission to the practice calendar. Five correct plots can earn 100 points; extra checks and hints reduce the score. Best scores are separate for each level and assisted missions do not replace them. Saved records are local to this browser, and the game works for a visit when saving is unavailable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which coordinate comes first?

The horizontal x coordinate comes first, followed by the vertical y coordinate. Right and up increase their respective values.

Can I play without tapping small grid points?

Yes. Enter whole-number x and y values in the labelled fields, or focus the board and use arrow keys followed by Enter.
