How to Play Math Crossword

Math Crossword turns arithmetic into a small, connected number puzzle. Each horizontal line and each vertical line is an equation. Fill every editable number cell so that all six equations are true at the same time. A number at an intersection belongs to both its row and its column, so it must work in both directions.

Select an empty cell, then enter a number with the on-screen keypad or your keyboard. Editable cells have a dashed border; given numbers have a solid border and cannot be changed. Use Erase to replace an entry. When the grid is filled, press Check puzzle. Incorrect completed equations are marked and described in the message below the board.

Easy uses small addition puzzles. Normal introduces reversed equations and may include multiplication or division. Hard uses larger multiplication and division puzzles. Every generated puzzle can be solved from its given numbers. Hint fills one cell when you need a starting point, and the result records that assistance.

Work Through an Intersecting Equation

For a row reading 4 + ? = 11, the missing number is 7 because 11 − 4 = 7. Now check the vertical line through that cell. If it reads 7 + 3 = ?, the lower number must be 10. Solving one line supplies useful information for another line.

For a division row such as 24 ÷ ? = 6, find the missing divisor by calculating 24 ÷ 6 = 4. For ? × 5 = 35, divide 35 by 5 to get 7. Gaps between operator cells are unused; enter numbers only in the number cells.

Start with a line that has two known numbers. Work out its third number, then repeat with a newly completed row or column. The puzzle checks actual arithmetic, rather than only comparing the appearance of the grid. You can correct an entry as often as needed before finishing.

Daily Puzzles, Practice and Progress

Daily gives the same puzzle to visitors choosing the same difficulty on the same UTC date. Practice creates a new puzzle when you press New game. Changing mode or difficulty resumes that saved game when it is available; Restart begins the current daily puzzle again.

Your current entries, active playing time and completed-puzzle count are saved in this browser. The clock starts when you interact with the puzzle and pauses when the tab is hidden. A daily completion counts towards your streak even if you use a hint. Fastest-time records require a completion without hints. No login is needed.

For a different arithmetic challenge, try Equation Builder or Make 24. Those games ask you to arrange operations, while Math Crossword asks you to fill values shared by several equations.
