Formula and Calculation Method
Sidewall = width ร aspect ratio. Diameter = rim diameter + 2 ร sidewall. Circumference = ฯ ร diameter.

Worked Example
A 205/55R16 tire has an overall diameter of about 632 mm. A 225/45R17 is about 634 mm, so the diameter change is small. The calculator shows the exact percentage difference, circumference, revolutions per mile and what an indicated 60 mph would approximately correspond to after the size change.

How to Interpret the Result
A larger overall diameter travels farther per wheel revolution, which can make actual road speed higher than the speedometer indication if the vehicle remains calibrated for the original tire. Clearance changes are half the diameter difference because the axle sits at the tire center.
