Current WHS calculation
A Score Differential adjusts a round for course difficulty. Under the World Handicap System, the basic formula is 113 divided by Slope Rating, multiplied by adjusted gross score minus Course Rating minus the Playing Conditions Calculation adjustment.
This calculator computes the current round differential and combines it with the previous differentials you enter. It then uses the WHS table for 3–19 scores or the lowest 8 of the most recent 20 when 20 differentials are available.
Fewer than 20 scores
The current USGA table uses the lowest one differential with an adjustment at 3 or 4 scores, then gradually increases the number of differentials used as the scoring record grows. At 20 scores, the first step is the average of the lowest 8.
Official Handicap Index calculations can also apply safeguards such as exceptional-score reductions and soft or hard caps. Those require additional scoring-record context and are not reproduced by this simple estimator.
Use adjusted scores and official ratings
Use the adjusted gross score that is acceptable for handicap purposes and the Course Rating and Slope Rating for the tees played. PCC is usually provided by the authorized handicap system, not guessed by the player.
