2026 Roth IRA Limits
For 2026, the IRA contribution limit is $7,500. Eligible people age 50 or older can add a $1,100 catch-up contribution, making the age-50+ limit $8,600. Your contribution also cannot exceed eligible taxable compensation, and contributions to other traditional or Roth IRAs can reduce the remaining amount available under the combined IRA limit.
Roth IRA eligibility is also affected by modified adjusted gross income. For 2026, the phase-out range is $153,000 to $168,000 for single and head-of-household filers and $242,000 to $252,000 for married couples filing jointly. Married filing separately while living with a spouse uses a $0 to $10,000 phase-out range.
How Reduced Contributions Are Estimated
Inside the phase-out range, the calculator follows the basic IRS worksheet approach: it measures how far modified AGI has moved through the applicable phase-out range, reduces the statutory contribution limit proportionally, rounds a positive reduced amount up to the next $10 and applies the $200 minimum rule where appropriate. It then subtracts other IRA contributions from the combined annual limit.
Growth Projection
After estimating the available 2026 contribution, the calculator projects the current balance plus that annual contribution over the selected number of years at the return you enter. Investment returns are not guaranteed, so compare conservative and optimistic assumptions rather than treating one projection as a forecast.
Tax Planning Note
Roth IRA contributions are generally made with after-tax money, and qualified withdrawals can be tax-free. Conversions, backdoor Roth strategies, excess contributions and the detailed definition of modified AGI require additional tax rules not modeled here.
