Formula and Method

Sections = ceil(fence length ÷ post spacing); posts = sections + 1; pickets = ceil(length ÷ (picket width + gap)).

The fence length is divided by the maximum post spacing and rounded upward to determine the number of sections. A continuous straight run uses one more post than sections. Rail count is sections multiplied by rails per section. Pickets are estimated from total length divided by picket width plus gap.
