How to play Factor Rectangle

Factor quadratic expressions by building two linear factors. Compare coefficients of x², x and constants with real algebra practice. Choose a difficulty, work through each puzzle and enter exact values or select the correctly rearranged formula. The free Daily and Practice modes keep progress on your device.

Worked algebra example

Factor x² + 5x + 6: (x + 2)(x + 3), because 2 + 3 = 5 and 2 × 3 = 6.

Key formulas and common mistakes

For (ax + b)(cx + d), the coefficients must satisfy acx² + (ad + bc)x + bd. An equivalent factor order is accepted.

Frequently asked questions

Why does factoring help solve quadratics?

Once a polynomial is a product of factors, setting each factor equal to zero reveals its roots.

Can I swap the two factors?

Yes. Multiplication is commutative: (x + 2)(x + 3) equals (x + 3)(x + 2).
