How to play Decimal Place Lab

Read each decimal carefully, find the highlighted digit, and enter its actual value. For example, the digit 7 in 2.070 is worth 0.07, not 7. Work through every row and check your answers.

The mathematics behind the game

Each step to the right of the decimal point divides the place value by 10: tenths = 1/10, hundredths = 1/100, thousandths = 1/1000 and ten-thousandths = 1/10000.

Worked example

In 5.306, the digit 3 is 3 tenths = 0.3, while the digit 6 is 6 thousandths = 0.006. Zeroes between digits do not change a digit’s place.

Tips to improve

Try Easy first to learn the steps without a timer. Move to Normal and Hard for larger numbers and more tasks. If you make a mistake, use Undo to reconsider the last move. A hint gives useful guidance but does not set an unaided personal best. Daily challenges offer the same seeded puzzle each UTC day on this device.
