For a 12 V, 160 Ah battery: 12 × 160 = 1,920 Wh nominal. At 80% usable and 90% efficient, usable AC energy is about 1,382 Wh.
75 watt ceiling fan example
1,382 Wh ÷ 75 W ≈ 18.43 hours. This is a planning estimate, not a guaranteed runtime. If a conventional lead-acid battery is limited to a shallower discharge, runtime will be shorter. If the fan uses less than its nameplate power at a lower speed, runtime may be longer.

Two or three fans
Add the watts of all fans. Two 75 W fans are a 150 W load, so the example runtime is about 9.2 hours. Three 75 W fans are 225 W, giving about 6.1 hours under the same assumptions.
Lights and other appliances matter
Backup time must include every device connected to the inverter. Three 75 W fans plus five 10 W LED lights create a 275 W load. Using 1,382 Wh of example usable AC energy gives about 5.0 hours.
Battery voltage matters
A “160Ah” rating by itself is incomplete. A 24 V 160 Ah bank stores twice the nominal energy of a 12 V 160 Ah battery. Always include system voltage when comparing battery backup.
Why real fan watts can differ
BLDC ceiling fans may use far less power than older induction fans. Fan speed, regulator type, supply voltage and product design affect consumption. For a better estimate, measure watts at the intended speed or use a reliable manufacturer figure.
Battery health and discharge limits
An older battery may deliver much less than rated capacity. Lead-acid, lithium and other chemistries also have different recommended operating ranges. Use the manufacturer’s depth-of-discharge and cutoff guidance rather than assuming 100% of the Ah rating is usable.
