How to play Bank Reconciliation Challenge

Reconcile a bank statement with company book cash using outstanding checks, deposits, fees and interest. Every exercise uses fictional amounts and checks your answers against accounting rules. Start with Easy and progress to Hard. Daily challenges provide repeatable puzzles for the same UTC date.

Worked accounting example

Bank balance $5,000 plus deposits in transit $800 minus outstanding checks $300 gives adjusted bank cash $5,500. Book balance $5,530 minus a $40 bank fee plus $10 interest also gives $5,500.

Rules and common mistakes

Unpresented checks and deposits in transit adjust the bank side. Unrecorded bank fees and interest adjust the company books.

Do not confuse cash transactions with revenue recognition, and always check whether an amount belongs on the debit or credit side.

Frequently asked questions

What are deposits in transit?

Cash receipts already recorded by the business but not yet reflected on the bank statement.

Where do bank charges belong?

Bank fees not already recorded reduce the book cash balance and require corresponding accounting entries.
