Formula and Calculation Method
Transfer time = file bits รท effective bits per second. Effective throughput = nominal bandwidth ร efficiency.

How to Interpret the Result
Advertised bandwidth is normally expressed in bits per second, while file sizes are usually shown in bytes. Eight bits equal one byte. Protocol overhead, congestion, storage speed, Wi-Fi conditions, server limits and competing traffic reduce real transfer rates, which is why the efficiency input is editable.
When the result will be used for purchasing, design, lab work, equipment selection or another consequential decision, keep the input values with the output so the estimate can be reproduced and reviewed later.

The result is a theoretical planning estimate and does not model latency-sensitive protocols, TCP ramp-up, packet loss, compression, retransmissions or changing network conditions over time. Decimal MB/GB/TB units are used for network-style planning; binary MiB/GiB values can differ.
A mathematically correct formula can still produce an unsuitable practical answer when an input uses the wrong definition, unit, reference condition or measurement method. Verify the assumptions before relying on the result.
